Note to Parents & Friends
Hello Parents & Fulmore Middle School Friends & Supporters:
Are you interested in helping us expand the Film Studies program at Fulmore Middle School? Our program currently has two components: course selections from our magnet curriculum and participation in an after school program sponsored by the Austin Film Society. Available film classes include Video Production, Film as Literature, Visual Media, Graphic Novels as Literature, which include segments on animation. Our in-school programming and after-school club both incorporate field trips, guest speakers and many film-related projects.
Vision:
Our vision for the Film Studies program includes expanding our course offerings, building relationships with members of our local film community, introducing our students to the various educational opportunities presented by local film production and festivals, and adding classroom technology to enhance student productions.
Film Festival:
One component of this vision is hosting our 1st annual Fulmore Student Film Festival. The festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the South Alamo Drafthouse. All films/media submitted for the festival will be written, filmed and produced by Fulmore students. There may be a couple of former Falcons, now in high school, who will be invited to show their work, too. There will also be an art design competition for students who would like to design the logo for the film festival t-shirts and posters.
This festival is intended to give our students an opportunity to showcase their creativity and originality as well as enable us to raise much needed funds for the film program. We would like to share this initiative with members of the Fulmore Middle School community (parents, students, teachers, and Fulmore friends and supporters) and invite them to visit the Alamo on May 21, 2011 to enjoy a morning of student-created films and fun. With your help, we can make this event successful for our students and for the Fulmore Film program.
Support:
Parent and community support is critical to our success in executing this vision. There are various ways you can help: we need volunteers to help plan, market and staff the film festival, sell tickets and t-shirts, identify and contact local businesses for sponsorship and coordinate printing for t-shirts, posters and invitations. Donations are also always welcome as donations and sponsorships will help us offset the cost of renting the theatre, printing t-shirts, posters and invitations and in meeting the required food and beverage minimums (required by the Alamo) for the event. All proceeds from the film festival ticket and t-shirt sales will go directly to the development of the Fulmore Film Studies program.
If you are interested in making a monetary donation, there are several levels of sponsorship available for the film festival. Depending on the level of sponsorship, donors will receive advertising benefits (for their business or a charity of their choice) including logos and acknowledgment on the Fulmore Film Festival website, festival t-shirts and posters, ad space in the award-winning Fulmore newspaper, the “Falcon Cry” and having a “sponsorship banner” hung on the S. Congress Avenue fence line. Please see the attached sheet for more detailed information on sponsorship levels.
To volunteer or make a donation, please contact Mr. Vinnie Harris or Mrs. Cindy Anderson at the contact information listed here >>>>> click here. We are especially interested in a volunteer(s) who can serve as the public relations lead, and is (are) skilled in promoting events through the various Austin media channels.
