Building Word Power
We are currently working on this project:
Title:Word Project Due Date: on or before Wednesday, February 10th
Topic: Your Favorite Word
Audience: The Fulmore Community and a worldwide audience if your project gets put online and available via Internet.
Purpose: To inform yourself and others about words.
Overview: The idea behind this project is for you to do some research about a specific word and share your research through a poster presentation.
Materials needed: dictionary, access to Internet, a poster board
Process for completion:
--Select a word
--Find key information about the word (see below)
--Prepare your information for presentation
--Turn in on or before the due date
Criteria & Requirements:
You must display the following information on your poster board:
1. your selected word (make sure it is an appropriate word)
2. the meaning(s) of the word
3. the part(s) of speech
4. the origin of the word, such as Latin, Greek, German, etc.
5. Use your word in the following 4 different sentence types:
--a declarative sentence
--an interrogative sentence
--an exclamatory sentence
--an imperative sentence.
6. five pictures that represent your word. You can draw the pictures, cut them from magazines, newspapers, etc.
7. list three synonyms of your word
8. list three antonyms of your word
9. use your word and 9 other student words, and include all 10 words in an original paragraph that you write.
10. explain how your word is connected to some science, math, or history-related topic, process, or person.
Rubric:
You may earn up to 25 points in each of the categories below-
1. Your Word Project is free of grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors.
2. You show evidence of brainstorms, drafts, and notes for your Word Project. <<<< I am hardcore about this!
3. Your project shows organization and is easy for the viewer to read and understand. Your Word Project shows organization. Do not just slap stuff on a poster. Have a reason for affixing things on your poster. I will probably ask you why you decided to organize your poster in the way you did. Have your answers ready.
4. Your project shows creativity with respect to such things as: colors, font (don't use fonts that are hard to read), themes, type of paper, artifacts you may to include, etc.
